Vacation from prison seems wild, but the facts speak for themselves. Scandinavia traditionally has very strong prisoner welfare and remarkably low recidivism. Countries (such as the US) where prison is more punishing nevertheless have much higher reoffending rates. Seems the better you treat people, the better they go on to behave. And yet people (not pointing at you, I mean in general) still get het up if they think prisons aren't enough of a punishment. Public instinct is completely at odds with demonstrable evidence on this issue.
