It’s a funny thing about this song. I perform it at nursing homes quite often and people who are in their 90s like it as well as aides in their 20s. It’s just got a groove and melody that anyone can connect to.

You're right, Blair! I listened to it A LOT when I was researching this piece, and it does have a feel-good groove (and wonderful descriptive language).

I ate lunch on my 21st birthday with my parents in a Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant near campus. Suprisingly, no margaritas we consumed at that lunch. I don't think my parents identify as parrotheads, but his music was familiar in the college scene.

How was the cheeseburger though, Jeff?

Or should I ask, did you feel like you were in paradise?

This epitomizes the Baby Boomer generation perhaps better than anything: a highly commercialized celebration of the leisure lifestyle. I don’t know whether to be appalled or stand in admiration. I’ve been to Key West multiple times and lived in Miami for awhile, though... I get it, even if as a Gen Xer I don’t get to participate myself.

It does seem to appeal to a specific demographic… When I was researching this story, I kept thinking about what the Gen X Retirement Village would be…

It would almost need sections: rock bands, pop idols, grunge…

Does anyone have a fan base to support such a growing community? 🤔
